U8 Boys Travel Development Program

For the past 2 or 3 seasons, your little soccer player has played in a recreational league within the Westlake Soccer Association.   When the soccer players start 2nd grade, the Westlake Soccer Association sponsors the U8 Soccer Development Program (U8 means “Under 8 years old” as of 8/1/2010 ).   This is the genesis/segue to travel soccer teams.   The difference between recreational “in house” league play and “travel” league play is just what you think it is:

• more competitive (teams will be selected based upon player skill/level of development)
  

• larger time commitment (generally 2 practices per week, one match per week, plus tournaments)

• inter-community play (traveling to other communities for matches and tournaments)

• Trained professionals coaching the kids…and the  coaching the volunteer coaches

With the long winter session over and spring right around the corner, it is time to think about getting back to playing soccer outside.  I know the boys are eager to go outside, and as a training staff, we cannot wait to get started. Here is some important information regarding the upcoming season:

The development program is open to all boys registered in the Spring Recreational program AND IS IN ADDITION TO THE SPRING RECREATIONAL LEAGUE for an additional cost of $45.00. As in the winter, this is simply a venue to prepare the boys for the upcoming U 9 season which begins in late August.

 

The program will be run by Clint Holliday, our new Director of Coaches for the Westlake Travel Association.

There will be weekly training sessions on Fridays, starting April 8^th (weather permitting), from 5pm to 6 pm at St. Johns West shore.

The emphasis will be on fun and technical skill (foot skills), as was hopefully the winter session.

Please remember that every Westlake team will enter the Westlake Invitational Soccer Tournament (WIST) on Memorial Day weekend and the Avon Lake Father’s Day tournament.

The schedule is designed to accommodate, the Recreational League practices and games, as well as the Development League practices and games, without overly burdening players and parents. Please see the schedule for academy days below.

This program is highly recommended by the Westlake Soccer Association and is available to all boys registered in the Recreation program regardless of winter development participation.

 

To sign up for the Spring Development League please send me an email ( clinth1010@gmail.com ) stating your interest and sons name and bring a check for $45 made out to Westlake Soccer Association to the first foot skills practice on Wednesday April 6^th.
