The Westlake Soccer Association was formed in 1979 to introduce and promote soccer to the community of Westlake. Over the past 40 years, WSA has grown into the largest athletic program in the city.
The WSA is a Non Profit charity with 501c.3 status and is a member of U.S. Youth Soccer, U.S. Club Soccer and Ohio Youth Soccer Association North. The WSA operates programs to teach soccer to youth players from 3 years old up to 14 years old.
Each Memorial Day Weekend, the WSA hosts the Westlake Invitational Soccer Tournament, also known as the WIST, which is one of the largest soccer tournaments in Northern Ohio.
The WSA offers programs to fit all players, levels and interests.
Mission Statement
Establish a culture where soccer players can develop as people and athletes.
Provide a safe, sportsmanlike atmosphere for healthy competition.
Create an environment where a player’s self-esteem, confidence and ability are developed to their fullest potential.
Vision Statement
To assist and teach our entire community of players the game of soccer, both recreational and competitive, by developing tactical and technical skills as well as important life lessons that will provide them a foundation to reach their highest goals later in life, whether athletic or personal. All players are important members of both their teams and our soccer community and are treated with respect, thoughtfulness and esteem. Both the needs of the individual and those of the team are stressed with equal importance as practices and games are conducted with thought, preparation and a long term outlook first in mind. Healthy competition is supported and fostered as a necessary means for our young athletes to learn these valuable lessons.
Our Programs
WSA Micro and Pre-K Programs is a fun introduction to soccer made up of three groups based on age. Micro Players are 3 years old. The Pre-K group is for players who are 4 or 5 years old.
Adjustments are made based on size and ability; when needed.
WSA's Recreational Program is for players in Kindergarten through 5th grade. The league is structured for the development of the individual player while playing in a structured game each week. The emphasis is on learning the game while allowing the players to challenge themselves each week in a game setting. Age group training is in a group format with direction from our Technical Director. Players may be moved from time to time to allow for balance and competitive situations within the game.
WSA's U8 Academy starts to introduce advanced soccer skills and is a lead into our travel program for age-appropriate players in the 1st & 2nd grade. The U8 Academy is an optional program that runs concurrently to travel activities and all players must be registered to participate. The program starts at the conclusion of the Fall season and runs during the winter with indoor training and then moves outdoors in the spring with additional training opportunities each week.
WSA's Travel Program is a competitive program to further the development of those players who are looking to challenge themselves with additional training and the opportunity to play in a competitive league. Tryouts are held in May each year to form teams in age groups for U9-U14. The number of teams per age group is based on the number of players available and coaching availability. It is our goal to try and place all players but at times cuts are necessary.
